Black Friday - Friday after Thanksgiving Day in the USA.
Black Friday is one of the brightest and unforgettable Fridays of the year, it is a day of huge discounts and sales, it is the main holiday for all shopaholics and a great solution for those who want to save.
With it begins the traditional Christmas season sales. The custom of arranging sales on this day was established in the 19th century, and the term “Black Friday” appeared in 1966 and was initially used mainly on the East Coast of the USA. Due to the fact that Thanksgiving Day falls on the fourth Thursday of November, Black Friday falls between November 23 and November 29.
Black Friday is not an official holiday, but many workers on this day take time off, with the exception of retail employees, since on this day the flow of customers increases significantly. On Black Friday, stores open very early - around 5 am, and some of the largest retail chains - even at midnight. The first customers are offered serious discounts - from 50 to 80% - this is done in order to attract as many customers as possible to the stores.
There are two generally accepted versions of the origin of the name.
One by one, the day was so called because of the huge traffic jams that formed the day after Thanksgiving.
On the other hand, the name Black Friday was due to the way of keeping accounts on that day. The losses were recorded in red ink, and the profits were black, and since the proceeds were huge on that day, the black color prevailed in the reports. So, the modern interpretation of this term in English is more positive - it is associated with the idiom "in the black" (i.e., "positive balance", as opposed to "in the red"), implying that many sellers "will be a plus" in this day.
One way or another, this tradition of grand sales became so successful that it quickly spread to other countries. It was on this day that hundreds of millions of people around the world sweep even the most stale goods off the shelves, bringing monthly profits to sellers.
Today, Black Friday is a popular international trend. But it is in America that this day is awaited with special impatience. On the eve, before midnight, in the malls and shops of American cities there is no place for an apple to fall - prudent buyers take their turn in advance, and some even spend the night at the entrance to the stores. After all, the first buyers are waiting for serious discounts (from 50 to 90%). In addition, on Black Friday, many stores open very early - around 5 am, and some of the largest retail chains - even at midnight.
The National Retail Federation regularly publishes Thanksgiving sales data. The total number of buyers in recent years has exceeded 200 million; The average bill is about $ 400.
Statistics show that about 20% of all retail trade in the United States takes place between Black Friday and Christmas.
Many Americans take time off, of course, with the exception of retail employees. And shops and retail chains do everything to attract customers. It would seem that such a “generous” policy should bring losses to the representatives of trade.
However, a large flow of buyers fully compensates for low prices, besides, there is Christmas ahead, and the purchase of goods becomes just a “necessity” in people. Thus, the shops in one day "kill" three birds with one stone: they attract a large flow of customers, ensure the rapid movement of goods and get a good profit.
By the way, do not think that only discounted or unpopular goods are involved in the sale. Since the seller, in any case, remains in the win, so discounts apply to the best products in the range. In addition, traditionally, manufacturers of appliances and household goods are timed to release a new product line for this period. So they not only stimulate demand, but also make advertising for a new product.
Another important feature of Black Friday - the goods purchased on this day, return to the store (for any reason) is considered bad form. Therefore, the percentage of the return of purchases is small, which is also on hand to sellers.
But the buyer remains the winner, because many people are planning to purchase in advance and buy them on Black Friday with great profit. And under discounts on this day almost all categories of goods, from food to household appliances. The most popular traditionally remain electronics, clothing and toys.
Although on TV every year we see huge crowds of people storming shops in the USA on Black Friday and sweeping everything off the shelves - from socks to huge plasma panels, when there is no time for viewing and thinking and sometimes there are no injuries, but the popularity of this event does not become less. And in general, the “true shopaholic holiday” brings real satisfaction to all its participants.
According to statistics, on Black Friday, an American family can save on average from a few hundred to thousands of dollars. And every year they leave $ 60 billion in stores, which is comparable to the annual budget of a small country. I must also say that in Europe, "Black Friday" is different. Yes, the tradition of making discounts on the eve of Christmas is preserved, but everything happens in a more decorous and noble way. In many European countries, honesty of discounts in retail outlets is controlled by the state, but also online stores do not lag behind their “real” colleagues. And lately, more and more Europeans are shopping these days, without leaving their homes.
Cyber Monday is the first Monday following Black Friday. If Black Friday is associated by Americans with shopping in regular retail stores, then Cyber Monday from its very beginning implied active purchases over the Internet.
The term was first used during holiday sales in 2005. A year earlier, it was observed that millions of working Americans who did not have time to move away from the Friday’s selling turmoil, return on Monday for their jobs with high-speed Internet and continue to make purchases from their jobs. Marketers, quickly seeing the benefits, decided to give this day the official status of the day of continuing sales. This has been the case since Cyber Monday is a legitimate continuation of Black Friday, showing buyers new opportunities to save money. And the most important thing is that it is aimed specifically at online buyers, which are our dear customers.
In Russia, Black Friday has been held since 2013. But, unlike a similar event in the United States, discount goods in this country are sold mainly through the Internet. But the assortment does not suffer from this, with a discount you can buy: electronics and household appliances, sports equipment and books, clothes and shoes, accessories and products for children, toys and gifts, interior items and textiles, optics and floristics, jewelry and pet supplies. Information on discounts in online stores and physical stores is concentrated, analyzed and provided to customers on several Russian sites. Buyers can only choose, compare and promptly pay for goods. Many popular retail chains and Russian stores are already participating in the promotion. Thus, about 5 million people took part in the “Russian” Black Friday of 2014, and electronic equipment, which was preferred by 50% of customers, and clothing / accessories, 28% of purchases, became its hits.
And in the last couple of years, buyers of Azerbaijan can also participate in this international shopping festival called Black Friday Baku in Baku.
