Two new products based on the legendary fragrance by Chanel

The French company Chanel presented a universal body spray and nourishing hand cream with the famous fragrance No. 5 L'Eau. A new interpretation was created by the perfumer of the brand Olivier Polja and his laboratory.

Created in 1921, this fragrance remains one of the most popular to this day. According to the research, every 55 seconds in the world, Chanel perfume bottle No. 5 is sold. This perfume, which became legendary, is rightly considered the most famous scent of the 20th century. The history of this fragrance begins in 1920, when the favorite of Gabriel Chanel Dmitry Romanov (representative of the royal family, Grand Duke, grandson of Alexander II and an accomplice in the murder of Grigory Rasputin) introduces her to the former court perfumer of the Romanov family, Ernest Eduardovich Bo.

Prior to dating Ernest, Bo Koko did not really think about creating her own perfume. In the making of the spirits of that time, only natural ingredients were used: flower extracts, musk, amber. Consequently, all the flavors were predictable, unstable, and in their majority had a smell absolutely identical to the smell of a particular flower. Koko did not like it. She considered the only truly refined aroma to be the smell of a clean, thoroughly washed body, everything else was for her a bad taste and a sign of a bourgeois style. But Ernest was able to offer her something that made her reconsider her views. This "something" was aldehydes.

Gabriel gives his consent to the project and Bo gets to work. He creates a series of probes under the numbers, with different combinations of ingredients. Chanel selects a probe at number 5 from them (there is an unconfirmed version that this particular pattern was accidental, as a result of the error that Bo made, incorrectly dosing the ingredients). It consisted of 80 different ingredients. The fragrance was complex, completely unique and unlike anything. That's what Koko wanted. She asked Bo to create "an artificial female fragrance that smells like a Woman", hoping to get something completely new. Ernest Bo justified her expectations, she got exactly what she needed.

When work on the perfume was completed, Gabrielle resorted to a little trick. Instead of immediately putting perfume on the shelves, she said, "No, no, I do not sell them to you, but I give them," and I handed them to some of my friends. Of course, these were the same friends who were spinning in the most brilliant and refined circles. The news of the appearance of fragrance quickly spread among the nobility. Formed a secret club of lovers "Chanel number 5". That's when Coco and released the perfume on sale. It's not difficult to imagine what a stir caused this event. Ever since, almost 90 years have passed. Much has changed since that time. Spirits appear and disappear. "Chanel No. 5" is not subject to these strict laws of the modern world. They stand apart, are out of time, competition, change. The formula for making the fragrance does not change to this day.

The fragrance of Chanel Nº 5 consists of the following perfume notes:

  • Upper notes: aldehydes, neroli, ylang-ylang, bergamot, lemon
  • Heart notes: iris, violet root, jasmine, lily of the valley, rose
  • Base notes: amber, sandalwood, patchouli, musk, viverra, vanilla, oak moss, vetiver
